Role Summary

The Chief Operating Officer is a crucial role at TIME’S UP. This role partners closely with the President & CEO, the Governing Board and the rest of the senior leadership on all organizational matters including the vision and mission of TIME’S UP. They will lead design and execution of organizational programmatic priorities and strategic initiatives – short and longer-term.

The COO is responsible for operationalizing all programmatic functions – i.e. takes the mission and vision from ideas to execution. You will engage the TIME’S UP team, Governing Board, Global Leadership Board, industry steering committees and advocacy partners to shape the work. This includes leading, managing and coordinating teams to: launch innovative campaigns and initiatives that advocate for changes in culture, public policy and/or private sector practices; strengthen and expand TIME’S UP national network of stakeholders; strengthen and expand TIME’S UP industry-specific stakeholder engagement; build broad-reaching digital engagement and educational initiatives to engage and empower women workers with a particular emphasis on those who are most vulnerable; define the overarching strategy for TIME’S UP brand and messaging; and forge strategic partnerships, amongst other things.


Strategic Operations

  • Define and direct how program activities create large-scale, coordinated impact and systemic change for TIME’S UP Foundation and TIME’S UP Now, and in coordination with TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund and an emerging venture, TIME’S Forward.
  • Define and direct how TIME’S UP programs operate and relate to one another.
  • Anticipate and plan for strategic shifts, and facilitate subsequent shifts in programs and priorities.
  • Galvanize the team toward our shared mission, and support VPs and Directors in aligning their teams with the organization’s highest priorities.
  • Balance long-term initiatives with timely opportunities to create rapid impact.

Strategic Program Development

  • In partnership with the CEO and Chief Strategy & Policy Officer – maximize the vision, impact, effectiveness, and efficiency of TIME’S UP programs including educational and awareness initiatives, digital and in-person engagement initiatives, and advocacy campaigns that cross culture change, private sector change and public policy change.
  • Collaborate with TIME’S UP senior leadership and external network in developing the vision, strategy, and execution plans for new program development and the expansion of existing programs, with a commitment to excellence, growth, and results.
  • Work closely with the Chief Development Officer to develop and execute fundraising strategies for TIME’S UP programs.
  • Supervise key programmatic staff, including industry change teams, communications and digital teams, and oversee new program expansion; partner closely with the TIME’S UP Impact Lab team.

Network Relations & External Affairs

  • In partnership with CEO, Chief Strategy & Policy Officer and VPs of Industries, lead and manage growing relationships with key stakeholders, such as: Governing Board, Global Leadership Board, industry leaders, advocacy partners, amongst others.
  • In partnership with the CEO and Chief Financial Officer, assist in translating program priorities into budget and operations functions.
  • Oversee our ongoing efforts to ensure a diverse set of voices, representing workers up and down the wage scale and across sectors, with an emphasis on survivors, are engaged in key aspects of decision-making to help inform the work.
  • Engage with current and prospective funders to support the sustainability of programs and the organization at large, in collaboration with and under the guidance of Chief Development Officer.
  • Represent TIME’S UP at external events and in media, as requested.

Program Oversight and Organization Impact Evaluation

  • Commit to delivering the most high-impact programs.
  • Recruit and lead program staff committed to TIME’S UP’s mission and goals and to driving results.
  • Partner with the Chief Financial Officer to optimize TIME’S UP’s use of financial resources on program budgets.
  • Develop an organization-wide impact assessment to ensure the organization is fulfilling its mission and goals on an annual basis, potentially in collaboration with external partners.

People & Culture

  • Manage a cross-disciplinary team of Vice Presidents and Directors across the organization.
  • Advise on people development across the organization.
  • Actively coach and guide teams to help get work done.
  • Lead through an EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) lens, highly in-tune with intersectional matters.
  • Model leadership behavior with a focus on maintaining a culture of feedback, excellence, and service.
  • Mentor staff across the organization.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years relevant experience, with at least 5 years in an executive leadership capacity; preferably within a non-profit organization, public sector entity or political or advocacy campaign
  • Demonstrated passion and day-to-day interest and expertise in intersectional women’s issues, policy, and culture with a commitment to diversity, inclusion, anti-sexism and anti-racism priorities
  • Demonstrated experience operationalizing an organization at the national level and running campaigns and/or national programs
  • Experience with managing complex budgets within a non-profit space.
  • Strategic thinking and demonstrated success in program innovation. Track record developing new programs and taking existing programs to higher levels
  • Proven project management skills and an innate ability to make things happen
  • Experience leading through transitions and growth
  • Comfortable adapting to shifting priorities and timelines
  • Deep creativity that permeates all aspects of your work
  • Airtight follow through (on tasks big and small) and exceptional organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and to provide the mentoring and guidance needed to lead a team; ability to shelve ego in support of a larger cause
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of Emotional Intelligence
  • Proven track record managing within a results-based framework, delivering high-quality programs and leveraging data to drive continuous learning and program improvement
  • Exceptional managerial experience, with an inclusive and empathic leadership style, skills in group process, and talent for working with diverse staff using a strengths-based approach; preferably experienced with managing remote teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong desire to have fun at work while doing good!

Additional Information

  • Preferably based in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, or Washington, D.C.
  • Some travel required
  • A minimum starting salary of $275,000 will be provided to a successful candidate meeting the minimum requirements for the position
