Applied is seeking an energetic team player to join the Corporate Legal Affairs team and Corporate Secretary’s office in a newly created role of Director, Environmental Social & Governance (ESG) Programs and Reporting. The Director will report to the VP, Corporate Legal Affairs and will work collaboratively across functions and play a key role in developing and directing Applied’s integrated ESG/corporate sustainability strategy, driving and monitoring progress on defined ESG/sustainability objectives, communicating Applied’s accomplishments to internal and external stakeholders and building an awareness and culture of sustainability within Applied.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Company’s internal groups (including Investor Relations, Engineering, Operations, Human Resources, EHS & Sustainability, Government Relations and Communications) to develop an integrated and coordinated corporate sustainability strategy, with objectives designed to drive business results, reduce risk and enhance the Company’s reputation on environmental and social issues
  • Partner cross-functionally to build sustainability metrics into short and long-term strategic and operational planning to drive environmental and social initiatives in product development, supply chain, operations and workforce management; measure and monitor progress against key strategies, objectives and performance targets
  • Collaborate with Investor Relations and Communications to develop strategic communications plans (including social media) on ESG issues tailored to key stakeholders
  • Lead Applied’s ESG reporting practices, including creation and publication of Company’s annual ESG/CSR report, coordinating data collection across departments; partner closely with EHS&S team on third-party questionnaires and industry surveys, and engage with key investor rating and ranking organizations
  • Develop ESG dashboard for tracking and reporting progress against objectives; prepare regular updates to executive team and Board of Directors on ESG trends, priorities and initiatives
  • Continuously research and evaluate evolving ESG trends and legislation, with a global perspective; stay informed regarding emerging sustainability issues and best practices; identify opportunities for collaboration and assist with development of policy recommendations
  • Serve as a resource for internal partners for ESG reporting and broader communications needs and opportunities
  • Manage ESG steering committee/cross-functional meetings

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience related to sustainability/corporate governance/ESG, with direct experience developing and implementing CSR/ESG reporting programs
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree such as MBA, JD or MA/MS in sustainability, environmental, public policy or related work is preferred
  • Current and clear understanding of broad ESG issues, particularly relating to semiconductor, manufacturing or broader tech industry
  • Deep working knowledge of GRI, CDP, SASB, TCFD and other broadly recognized reporting standards and frameworks
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in corporate sustainability within a large, global organization
  • Strong network within sustainability, ESG and other related communities a plus
  • Proactive, highly motivated self-starter with a high level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal agility, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility and motivation to learn new content, consider new resources and innovate
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation and facilitation skills; ability to communicate complex circumstances and issues and provide clear, concise and supported recommendations
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational and planning skills; capacity to work independently and simultaneously handle a variety of complex matters under deadline pressure
  • Team-oriented, with provide ability to form strong working relationships and work cross-functionally to drive results
  • Strategic, creative, practical and open-minded thinking with excellent business judgment and a focus on business outcomes
  • Comfortable challenging the status quo and ability to address conflict and difficult issues in a professional, assertive and effective manner
  • Strong sense of humor, high personal standards of excellence and sound judgment
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
