Job Description

  • Provide proactive support, collaboration, and alignment for European Markets (including IOM and IDL) to accelerate innovation working with regional functional groups and leadership to scale solutions
  • Facilitate consistent market and regional strategy development, minimize duplicative resourcing efforts and “wasted motion” and foster best practice sharing.
  • Ensure markets have a voice with enterprise and global sourcing strategies as implementers.
  • Support European market sustainability leads by enhancing European market engagements as well as creating a more holistic picture to 1) prioritize issues 2) predictably plan actions/investments and 3) provide feedback to global functions.
  • Responsible for the development and management of direct reports (influence in development of indirect reports); team dynamics and ensuring robust succession plans are in place

Key Accountabilities

  • Leads the development of a clear and compelling pan-European regional vision & strategy and action plan that is aligned with the organization’s Global Impact framework and goals.
  • Leads the collaborative design, supports implementation, and execution of regional and global priorities within McDonald’s to provide for current and future needs of the Corporation and European markets.
  • Role-models and encourages McDonald’s values, three-legged stool philosophy, and GSC culture amongst team members. Can work well with ambiguity to find clarity of direction and focus.
  • Focuses on what matters most, executes fewer things better. Maintains and ensures a disciplined focus on those things that will have the greatest impact to the business. Holds ourselves and other accountable for delivering on set goals.

  • Utilize and extend existing core competencies to develop philosophically consistent and market specific frameworks and strategies to:
  • Evaluate local sustainability and resource resiliency issues critical to the business
  • Local benchmarking, prioritize issues and confirm “what we will not do” (lead/compete/comply)
  • Est. Scenario & Sequencing Plans for global commitments and market priorities.
  • Coordinate multiple issue priorities and strategies into a holistic market plan for efficient market investment and roll-out planning including definitions of accountabilities, expectations, priorities and “what we will not do”.
  • Works with Global Sustainable Sourcing, Supply Chain and Global Impact Team to align and amplify sustainability and resiliency strategies. Promotes openness to others’ diverse ideas and leverages the team’s diversity to achieve best results.
  • Leads and promotes collaboration with other corporate and B.U. functions (Restaurant Development, Operations, etc.) on cross-functional activities that drive business value and enables market/restaurant execution of sustainability priority areas.
  • Develops clear milestones/processes to minimize variability and align with category strategies.
  • Ensures subject matter expertise regarding the evolving and emerging sustainability issues, including supply chain, restaurant, and community issues.
  • Uses research and data to find opportunities and drive actionable insights to implement innovative solutions for the improvement of sustainability and resiliency strategies.
  • Leads change and innovation through early identification of the changing needs of our customers, local governments, employees, and system. Successfully leads innovation that creates business value and resiliency.
  • Supports European Sustainability Leads and team members with people development processes and planning within GSC. Continually elevates talent throughout the system. Coaches/mentors others to accelerate learning and development. Encourages diversity throughout the organization.
  • Influence across all level stakeholders and collaborates in ways that inspire others to take action and/or change perspective. Aligns GSC and Global Impact priorities and strategic direction with all stakeholders.
  • Champions consistent and unified Sustainability and GSC communication to all stakeholders.
  • Ensures continuous improvement of Global and European sustainability strategies and focus areas such as climate, circularity, farmer engagement, packaging, regenerative agriculture, etc.

Qualifications

  • Must be fully vaccinated (i.e., at least 2 weeks after last dose) for COVID-19 and, if hired, present proof of vaccination by start date.
  • General Business, Sustainability or Sourcing degree desired, however other degrees acceptable (Agriculture, etc.) with applicable work experience
  • The position requires subject matter expertise in integration of Sustainability into core business functions as well as broad sustainability knowledge across multiple focus areas (supply chain and restaurants)
  • The role requires seasoned experience in working with and influencing markets or functions to integrate and implement sustainability strategies, dealing with ambiguity and business complexity to set functional strategy and execute with credibility
  • Demonstrates a strategic approach to interactions with stakeholders through the ability to adapt approach and influence the desired outcome
  • McDonald’s experience in market/supplier/partner management and development, and balancing the three legs of the stool
  • Industry experience in Sustainability, Communications/Marketing, Supply Chain, Procurement, or similar role
  • Demonstrate capability to build trust, solid networks, and business relationships across all levels in the organization
  • Business savvy and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess strong analytical skills including problem solving and critical thinking skills
