Climate17 has an exciting opportunity for an ESG Associate.


  • Developing and sustainably growing our sustainable finance offering and team;
  • Developing business with companies and co-professionals that will provide new opportunities for the business to provide our range of services;
  • Management and delivery of consultancy services at project level for the above services;
  • Preparation of scopes of work and costs for input to proposals, as necessary;
  • Taking a lead role in reporting ESG benchmarks, including SASB, GRI, CDP, Sustainalytics, EP, PRI, RobecoSAM, CDP;
  • Designing and implementing ESG organisational and management systems (including ISO 14000 standards);
  • As appropriate, lead or support senior staff in larger multi-disciplinary projects
  • Managing & mentoring staff and where necessary acting as project manager or director on relevant projects and liaising with other members of the team wherever possible; and
  • As the business requires, assist in delivery of other related environmental and social assessments, commensurate with experience and technical understanding.


  • A good understanding of Microsoft Office;
  • Successful proposal writing and project delivery skills;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to produce well-presented, error-free results;
  • Demonstrated experience working in client-oriented consulting in the private sector, understanding client needs and guiding them to an appropriate solution;
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage complex project deliveries across multiple simultaneous client engagements;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to speak and present information with confidence in front of an audience, client workshops and represent our client externally;
  • Effective writing skills, with an ability to write concise, compelling and well-structured documents and reports;
  • Strong commercial skills, with an ability to project manage and deliver on time within budget;
  • An ability to create networks of customers across existing and potential clients;
  • An ability to see the ‘big picture’, as well as focus on the detail;
  • Strong understanding of ESG strategy, policy and roadmap development;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of issues surrounding ESG and energy, including net zero and climate change;
  • Proven experience in working with (and selling to) a diverse range of stakeholders, including those in finance (investors, banks, development finance institutions), energy (oil and gas, renewables), real estate (developers, construction), manufacturing and mining;
  • Demonstrable experience in designing and implementing ESG organisational and management systems (including ISO 14000 standards);
  • Working knowledge of UK and international environmental and social legislation (including UK, EU, North America, Australasia);
  • Strong knowledge of environmental and social due diligence assessments;
  • Leadership experience in reporting ESG benchmarks, including SASB, GRI, CDP, Sustainalytics, EP, PRI, RobecoSAM, CDP;
  • Working understanding of environmental and social impact considerations for regulatory submissions (EIAs, ESHIAs);
  • International educational background with a master’s degree in energy, business and/or sustainability;
  • A full UK driving licence; and
  • Willingness to travel.
