The Environmental and Social Responsibility (ESR) team works with our investees to ensure that CDC’s capital is deployed responsibly and has a positive E&S impact.
The Executive’s primary role will be to support the E&S Teams work with financial intermediary (FI) investments, but will include work on CDCs direct equity, debt and fund of fund businesses. FI investments comprise both debt and equity in a range of banks and non-bank financial institutions in CDCs markets. The FI portfolio is a large and extremely important element of CDCs overall portfolio, and this is a leading and significant opportunity for the candidate to help continue to deliver world class E&S support to CDCs FIs, and to ensure that the requirements of CDCs Code of Responsible Investing are met.
Responsibilities
The role will involve:
- Due diligence, portfolio monitoring and management, the provision of technical advice and value add to investees/ FI clients, as well as active participation in E&S team related activities.
- Contributing to the evaluation of investment proposals, including preparation of E&S input into Investment Committee papers and impact theses for investments.
- Commissioning and managing E&S Due Diligence processes on behalf of CDC.
- Working with the E&S team as well as broader impact group and Investment teams to implement CDC’s E&S policies in investee companies.
- Working with investees to improve their E&S systems, policies and procedures, including the negotiation of action plans where necessary, to mitigate E&S risks and deliver greater E&S impact.
- Meeting with companies, financial institutions and fund managers as well as visiting portfolio companies as part of CDC’s due diligence and on-going portfolio monitoring.
- Monitoring investee compliance with CDC’s Code of Responsible Investing (and other policies, including the implementation of agreed Action Plans).
- Contributing to the delivery of E&S training, both for CDC’s staff and for CDC’s investees.
- Managing the FI section of CDCs ESG Toolkit (currently under construction)
- Working on ad hoc projects such as good practice guidance, case studies and “lessons learnt” analysis, analysis of trends in assessing development impact particularly with relation to E&S matters.
