Job Summary

Are you passionate about Sustainability? Do you want to be part of a UK wide team developing carbon strategies and action plans for achieving net zero? If you are an experienced Principal Consultant and would love to be part of our established Sustainable Development Group based in our Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham offices, this is the role for you.

You will need to have a good technical understanding of energy and GHG emissions, and renewable energy technologies, as well as strong numerical and data analysis skills. As well a proven track record of developing GHG emissions reduction strategies, mitigation pathways and deployment plans. The role will see you involved and responsible for the following –

  • Provide consultancy support to organizations (public and private sector) to develop carbon reduction and GHG emissions reduction strategies
  • Provide consultancy support to local authorities, cities and regions to develop multi-sectoral strategies for achieving net zero
  • Provide strategic input and advice to major new-build projects and masterplans on how to achieve net zero
  • Develop robust spreadsheet-based energy and carbon scenario models to support the development of energy and carbon management strategies for clients
  • Work with and managing more junior staff to conduct data analysis and scenario modelling
  • Provide support with, and potentially lead, delivery of Renewable Energy Assessments (REAs) for local authorities in Wales and elsewhere

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in engineering, physics, environmental science, or mathematics related discipline
  • Highly proficient in the use of Excel
  • Proven ability to manipulate data and present data analysis in an impactful way to stakeholders
  • Highly numerate and ability to work methodically through complex datasets and calculations
  • Technical skills relating to energy use and GHG emissions and/or renewable energy
  • Experience of modelling carbon and GHG emissions trajectories and mitigation scenarios across multiple sectors and at a range of scales
  • Proven track record of developing strategic carbon/ GHG emissions reduction strategies and implementation plans
  • Proven ability to bid for and secure new work in this field
  • Experience of working in a consultancy environment, to deadlines and a fixed budget

Preferred Qualifications

  • If not currently chartered, ideally should be working towards chartership with a relevant institution (e.g. CIBSE, Energy Institute, IEMA)​
  • Experience with demand side management and/or energy storage
  • Experience of techno-economic modelling of low carbon heat networks
  • Knowledge of smart systems/ smart grids
  • Knowledge of new fuels and technologies – e.g. hydrogen.
  • Knowledge of GHG accounting and reporting methodologies and experience of working with clients to report on GHG emissions
  • Experience with assessment of climate risk and developing climate adaptation strategies
  • Line management experience
