About the job

The Senior Director, Social Responsibility, will report to the Chief Social Responsibility Officer and work with their supervisor and managers, employees, customers, and shareholders to address the organization’s approach to ESG, including a focus on social and environmental responsibility with the goal to minimize the company’s environmental impact.


  • Assesses and analyzes company policies and processes to identify areas in and processes to which improvements can be made in accordance with the organization’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainability.
  • Identifies creative ways in which the company can balance business obligations with the goal of respecting, supporting, and improving the local and global environments.
  • Partners with the legal department on the Company’s ESG disclosure governance strategy to ensure alignment with legal requirements and regulations
  • Leads initiatives and workstreams to ensure alignment with recognized ESG industry frameworks and to ensure compliance with data assurance expectations.
  • Leads ESG raters and rankers and disclosure maturity strategy, staying abreast of current trends in ESG ratings, to ensure continuous improvement in Pentair’s ESG maturity ratings.
  • Partners with Pentair’s Communications team to develop and execute ESG communication, association engagement and awards strategies.
  • Implements strategies to address various environmental concerns including energy use, conservation, reduction of pollution, recycling, building and facility design, and general education on sustainability.
  • Implements sustainable organizational policies that address environmental concerns.
  • Leads workstreams to advance the Company’s progress regarding its ESG targets, including partnering on Pentair’s Supplier Responsibility, Product Design for Environment, and DEI initiatives
  • Evaluates efficacy of sustainability programs; recommends and implements improvements as necessary.
  • Conducts research to identify social, environmental and sustainability concerns, interests, trends, benchmarks and issues.
  • Leads Pentair’s ESG maturity strategy, including but not limited to, ESG impact and materiality assessments, stakeholder engagement, and ESG maturity roadmap.
  • Drafts and prepares reports, presentations, and proposals; presents proposals and recommendations to the Chief Social Responsibility Officer and other executives and key stakeholders.
  • Leads the annual and ongoing processes for the compilation and publication of the Company’s annual Corporate Responsibility Report.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate documentation and records.
  • Maintains current working knowledge of, and ensures compliance with, all applicable local, state, federal, and internal environmental laws and regulations including laws and regulations regarding ESG reporting, data integrity and disclosure.
  • Identifies and facilitates training as needed.
  • Leads the social responsibility team members.
  • Performs other related duties as requested or required.


  • 7-10 years experience in an ESG-related position
  • Experience leading a team
  • Strong communication and relationship skills involving different cultures and all levels of an organization
  • Ability to build and foster strong business relationships and provide seamless collaboration across functional and matrix environment
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and related computer skills
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of leadership in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical and strategic decision making and problem solving skills
  • Self-discipline, results-orientation, resilient, and ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with demonstrated project management skills and the ability to work both independently and as a highly effective member of a team
  • Strong work ethic and proven track record of consistently delivering high quality work product under pressure
  • Willing to commit to long work hours, as necessary, to reach business goals
